KANSAS Invited to Rock Logan City’s Freedom Fire July 3

LOGAN—Freedom Fire welcomes legendary rock band, KANSAS, July 3 to Utah State University’s Romney Stadium for Logan City’s annual Independence Day celebration.

“Celebrating Independence Day with KANSAS will provide a spectacular experience for everyone in attendance and we’re delighted to be a part of it,” said Craig Jessop, dean of the Caine College of the Arts.

The Caine College of the Arts has once again partnered with Logan City to help produce the second annual Freedom Fire celebration.

“KANSAS is an exciting addition to this year’s program,” said James Bankhead, Freedom Fire producer and USU music department head. “The audience can anticipate some of the best entertainment due to the energy, diversity and artistry of all the groups participating.”

KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums and a million-selling gold single, "Dust in the Wind." "Carry on Wayward Son" was one of the most played tracks on classic rock radio in the mid and late ‘90s.

“This year’s star-spangled event, Freedom Fire, will spark excitement in Logan as KANSAS presents their solid, classic rock sound,” said Russ Akina, parks and recreation director for the city of Logan.

The America Sings! and the American Festival Chorus (AFC) will also be performing in this year’s Freedom Fire.

John Jacobson, founder and volunteer president of America Sings! Inc. has staged hundreds of music festival ensembles in his association with Walt Disney Productions. Jacobson has also directed performances featuring thousands of young singers, including NBC's national broadcast of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and presidential inaugurations. The America Sings! performance will feature 500 singers and dancers, ages 10-18, and 500 boy scouts.

The American Festival Chorus, conducted by Craig Jessop, consists of 250 singers who live within a 50-mile radius of Logan. The professional American Festival Orchestra is composed of USU music faculty, outstanding musicians in the community and the Northern Utah region and select USU students.

Gates open at 6 p.m., pre-show starts at 7 p.m. and the headliner will perform at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$25 for general admission and patrons can receive a 15 percent discount on purchase of six or more tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in room 139-B of the Chase Fine Arts Center, online at arts.usu.edu and over the phone at 435-797-8022.

The Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University seeks to make the arts more visible, innovative and integrated into the intellectual and cultural life of the communities served. By partnering with Logan City for the annual Fourth of July celebration, the Caine College of the Arts hopes to showcase the quality and talent of its students, faculty and staff while entertaining local residents and visitors.
